HELP ENSURE SHASTA IS SAFE FROM DATACENTERS IN UNDER 10 MINUTES IN 3 EASY STEPS!

STEP 1:

Send this script:

Hello, Siskiyou County Planning. My name is _________, and I'm a concerned resident of _________. I am writing to you today to express my concern- as well as request immediate action- regarding the lack of transparency, lack of public engagement, and lack of local consent to the construction of a data-center. Our beautiful, Sacramento river headwaters flows through all of Northern California, and empties in the bay. This water source, and the pollution of it and our land, affects all residents of California, particularly us local citizens. I request that a public meeting be scheduled in which our local community is informed, and consulted before any data-center operations- this one AND future ones- commence. I request that Siskiyou County's citizens vote directly on this choice, via public meeting attendance. Thank you for your time, and diligence in making the voices of the people you represent heard. I am looking forward to your proactive efforts to address the data-center concerns of Siskiyou County's citizens.

STEP 3:

Hello, *insert board members name here*, My name is ________, and I'm a concerned resident of _______. I am writing/calling you today to urge a county-wide ban, across Siskiyou County, of the construction of data-centers. Our citizens would suffer from economic and environmental devastation, increased risks of respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, mental health struggles, stroke, diabetes, adverse reproductive outcomes like miscarriage and stillbirth, as well as noise, air, and water pollution. Data centers create noise pollution primarily due to the excessive use of diesel generators and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. According to C&C Technology Group, internal noise levels can reach up to 96 A-weighted decibels (dBA)—well above the safe sound level of 70 A-weighted decibels (dBA) or lower, recommended to be a healthy level of noise. Sounds 85 dBA and above cause direct harm to hearing. This incessant noise adversely affects the internal workers, nearby communities, and local wildlife- all things Siskiyou County prides itself in. Fossil-fueled power plants and backup diesel generators powering data centers emit hazardous pollutants into the air. Examples include nitrogen oxides and fine particulate matter, increasing rates of respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and elevating cancer risk in nearby communities. Moreover, a data-center would pollute our freshwater with biocides- causing skin allergies and irritation, corrosion inhibitors- contributing to eutrophication- negatively affecting marine life, heavy metals- which are carcinogenic and can harm the skin, respiratory system and kidneys, and finally, total dissolved solids that may result in kidney stones and organ stress. Not only would our freshwater be polluted, but it would also become scarce. A typical hyperscale data center can use 3–7 million gallons of water for cooling purposes in ONE day. Such mass amounts of consumption threatens local water security, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases, dehydration, and poor hygiene in our local communities. The large tax incentive means that only the data center and it's constituents would benefit, while the citizens of Siskiyou County would face long-term impacts such as increased risk of respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, mental health struggles, stroke, diabetes, adverse reproductive outcomes like miscarriage and stillbirth, dangerous levels of air, water and noise pollution, and economic devastation due to decreased agricultural exports that could be a result of polluted water and decreased local spending power due to the rise in costs for electricity. Thank you for your time, and diligence in making the voices of the people you represent heard. I am looking forward to your proactive efforts to address the concerns, and the wellbeing of Siskiyou County's citizens.
